Young kayakers enjoy chance to take to the Liffey

-

THE past weekend’s sunny weather offered the perfect conditions for 134 members of Lacken Kayak Club to embark on a day out on the River Liffey, from Lucan down to the Strawberry Beds.

Leading the trip were adult club members and instructors from Canoeing Ireland.

It was the first river trip for many of the club’s junior members and they enjoyed an adrenaline outing.

The trip was led by Sean Murphy, Neil Robinson, Orlagh Deegan and Maria Harney, all experienced kayakers and locals to the west Wicklow area.

Orlagh has been a member of Lacken Kayak Club for close to ten years and enjoyed bearing witness to so many youngsters taking up the sport.

Lacken Kayak Club run both junior and adult kayak sessions on Blessington Lakes during the summer months and travel to rivers all over the country.

Their favourite location is the Avonmore River where they often paddle from Lough Dan, through Laragh and Rathdrum, all the way to The Meeting of the Waters in Avoca.

Their members mostly come from around the Blessington Lakes but others also travel from Kildare and Dublin.

If interested check out Lacken Kayak Club on Facebook or alternatively you can text (087) 6441174 and maybe you could be representing Wicklow as a slalom kayaker in the next Olympics Games.
