Pensioner attacked by thieves

-

Apriil 2008

AN elderly man was shoved to the ground and had his wallet stolen right on his front doorstep after intruders lurking inside his house took him by surprise as he returned home.

One of the intruders was carrying a hammer and Blessington Gardaí are appealing to the public for help. While shaken up after the robbery, the victim was still able to give the gardaí a good description of both culprits, one of whom was ‘extremely short.’

The incident occurred right on the Wicklow/ Kildare border at Liffey Heights in Ballymore Eustace.

The two men broke into the house by slipping the lock of the front door.

The pensioner later returned home at 10.30 p.m. and thought he noticed some strange shadows or movements inside.

However, before he could react the front door flew open and he was confronted on front doorstep by two men. He was shoved onto the ground and one of his attackers robbed his wallet.

Both the suspects then ran down the road to an unidentified vehicle parked nearby and made their escape.

The two men were both young. One was described as being 5’10 and clean shaven with a long face and tight haircut. The second suspect was only five feet in height and had his face hidden with a cap.

If anyone saw any strange activity on the night of Monday April 21 then they should immediately contact Blessington Garda Station.
