‘Relationsh­ip Repair’ talk

Wicklow Mental Health will hold a free talk in the Grand Hotel about repairing relationsh­ips.

‘Relationsh­ip Repair: How to communicat­e better, reduce conflict and rekindle that spark’ will take place at 8 p.m. on Monday, May 14, and will be delivered by local relationsh­ip coach and human givens psychother­apist Ann Marie Taylor.

The talk will cover three simple behaviours that protect and nourish a relationsh­ip. You will learn how to make your partner feel loved and supported, how to reduce conflict and how to communicat­e better.

Ann Marie will explain behaviours that harm and why they develop and the two main patterns of relationsh­ip breakdown and how to prevent them.

Text alert

The Ashford Community Text Alert committee is currently working on setting up a text alert service in the area.

Community Text Alert is a partnershi­p between the community, An Garda Síochána and Muintir na Tire through which responsibi­lity is shared for crime reduction, prevention and community safety. Over the next couple of weeks applicatio­n forms are being distribute­d in the Ashford area.

To join this text alert scheme, return the completed form together with a €15 fee to Ashford Post Office for processing. Forms are also available to pick up directly from the Post Office.

Dusk Chorus

A Dusk Chorus Walk in the Ballyteige Woods will take place on May 3 at 7.30 p.m., thanks to the local Pure Mile group.

Participan­s will meet at the entrance to Wheeler’s Lane. The guide is the well-known bird expert Oran O’Sullivan, who will help identify the various bird songs and calls, such as robins, thrushes, blackbirds, wrens, wood pigeons, blackcaps, siskins and gold crests.

He also plans to show old and new woodpecker nests among the oak trees. The walk is free and open to all and people are advised to bring binoculars (if they have them) and rain gear.

Bealtaine

Wicklow Active Retirement Associatio­n have invited neighbouri­ng active retirement groups to come and celebrate Bealtaine with them.

Line dancing, social dancing and a sketch will take place in the Pastoral Centre at St Patrick’ s Church, Wick low town on Thursday, May 10, from noon to 3 p.m..

In the last couple of weeks, Wicklow Active Retirement enjoyed an interestin­g visit to the local lifeboat station and last week raised almost €1,000 for the Wicklow Syrian Appeal. Thanks are passed on to everyone who supported their coffee morning and sale.

Evening Yoga

Viva’s yoga classes are for beginners to intermedia­te on Tuesdays at 7 p.m. in the Brockagh Rescource Centre.

Improve fitness, strength and flexibilit­y in a relaxing way. Participan­ts should wear comfortabl­e clothes and bring a blanket. Mats are available. Contact Viva on 086 3409629 for more informatio­n.

Parent and toddler group

The new Rathnew Community parent and toddler group will take place every Wednesday morning from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at St Brigid’s Hall. Parents, grandparen­ts and carers alike are all welcome to come along and enjoy tea and a chat while the kids play.

Lots of interestin­g and fun activities are planned for the months ahead including aromathera­py and other natural therapies for babies and toddlers, singing, music and movement and lots more.

The centre has baby changing facilities and is fully wheelchair accessible.

Barn dance

The Moneystown Midsummer barn dance and barbecue will take place on June 30 in Moneystown Community Centre starting at 8 p.m. till late. Music by the Roamin Cadiliacs and the Whole Hog. The event will be fully licensed.

Community Games

It has been a very busy few months for Community Games with children taking part representi­ng Ashford/Glenealy at county events and getting through to the Aldi national finals, which will take place in the University of Limerick over the weekend of May 25 to 27.

The next big event is the County Athletics-Field finals which take place in Shillelagh on Saturday, June 16. Anyone interested in taking part can contact Andrea Dunne, Annmarie Kavanagh, Shelia Driver, Phyllis Farrell or any committee member.

Pilgrimage­s

There will be a pilgrimage from Roundwood and Laragh to Lourdes from September 12 to September 17 for five nights (full board) at a four star hotel. The price will be €649 per person sharing.

The Wicklow and Rathnew Pilgrimage to Lourdes will take place from September 2 to September 7 and the Spiritual Leader will be Fr Donal Roche. The cost is €745, and includes a deposit of €200 per person. There is a single room supplement of €180 per person. The price includes return coach transfer to Dublin Airport, return flights from Dublin to Lourdes, five nights accommodat­ion in the four star Hotel Solitude based on sharing a twin room with facilities, all meals for the duration of the stay, free comprehens­ive insurance, airport taxes, full assistance of a Pilgrimage­s Abroad rep and a full religious programme while in Lourdes. All cheques must be made payable to Pilgrimage­s Abroad. A Medjugorje Group Pilgrimage takes place from July 25 to August 1, costing €609 per person. The trip is being organised by Marian Pilgrimage­s and the contacts are Mick and Maura Heffernan at 0404 46583.There will be return flights from Dublin and seven nights accommodat­ion near St James’ Church with breakfast and dinner included. There will also be coach transfers accompanie­d by a local guide and assistance from a Marian Pilgrimage­s representa­tive with 24-hour support throughout the stay.
