Over 1,200 are registered for Wicklow’s Darkness into Light

This Saturday at 4.15 a.m. hundreds of people will meet outside the Brass Fox lounge in Wicklow to take part into Darkness Into Light.

Already over 1,200 people have registered to take part in the Wicklow walk in aid of Pieta House which is a non-profit organisati­on providing a specialise­d treatment programme for people who have suicidal ideation or who participat­e in self-harming behaviours.

The vision at Pieta House is to create a world where suicide, self-harm and stigma have been replaced by hope, self-care and acceptance and Darkness into Light is vital fundraisin­g event helping to keep their doors open.

For those who have not registered please come along on the morning of the walk where volunteers will assist you and donations can be made on the day and everyone can take part in a memorable occasion.

Over 60 volunteers will be helping out including Wicklow Lions Club, teachers and pupils from CCM will be out in force, John of God, Wicklow Fire Service, RNLI, Garda and many more. Geraldine Mooney and Ann Chambers lead a very vibrant committee who have worked very hard for the past six months.

GAA expert and radio personalit­y Michael Sargent will act as MC welcoming the walkers/runners and music will be provided by Padraic Boyce. For the first time Wicklow Community Choir will sing a selection from their concert repertoire under the direction of Tony Norton. The choir will perform at 3.45 a.m.

When the participan­ts return feeling totally fulfilled as the sun is rising, teas and coffees will be available in the Brass Fox. The wonderful music of the Willie Dunne Silver Band will add that extra atmosphere to the occasion.
