TASTE OF DCW

The TY group completed their food product design module where they had to design and make a low cariogenic snack suitable to be sold in the school canteen. After carrying out market research in school and the local shops the girls got creative. They packaged and labelled their food products as well as using Animoto to produce a promotional advert of the stages of their production. Oreo-K, Fruit Roll-Ups, Healthy Chocolate and Raspberry cookies and Pizza Muffins were some of the products created. Working creatively through the design process are skills the girls will continue to use in all aspects of their future school and work lives.

Ms McGlynn outlined the legislation governs Tusla first and Ms Condon then took us through the inspection tool. The talk went on to give examples of how settings are compliant or non-compliant. Discussions around record keeping, qualifications and how changes to the preschool regulations in 2016 impact on service were had.

Some of our Legal Practice and Procedure class recently had a guided tour of Bray court house. The tour gave us a very real understanding of some of the theory the group have discussed in class such as the layout of the courtroom. The Bray court house has a circuit court, a district court and a family court room we got to explore each one and even had a look at the cells. The group then sat in on the district court proceedings for the morning which was very enlightening. It was a very informative and interesting morning.

ART TOUR

On Friday, April 27, our group of fifth and sixth year art students visited the National Gallery of Ireland in Merrion Square and the National History Museum in Kildare Street.

We visited the Portrait Gallery in the National Museum where we were given a guided tour of the highlights of the collection. The students were particularly interested in the painting of Graham Norton which was painted by the Sky Arts Portrait Artist Gareth Reid and the paintings of Robert Ballagh. They also enjoyed the portrait of Arklow’s Olympic winner Ronnie Delaney.

In the National History Museum we saw the Egyptology room with its mummies and the bog bodies from Iron Age Ireland. We then examined the beautiful artefacts from Ireland’s Golden Age, the Ardagh Chalice and the Tara Brooch. Lunch and shopping in Grafton Street completed our trip.
