ÉIRE ÓG GREYSTONES

-

Well done to the county’s hurlers and footballers who confounded the pundits by registering victories in their respective championship games at the week-end.

On Saturday the hurlers defeated Mayo who had beaten them in the league and on Sunday the footballers put a spring in their followers’ step after their inspirational battling performance against a much more fancied Offaly team. It is interesting that the Cill Mhantáin score in both games was 1-20.

A very important event is taking in the club grounds on the Mill Road between 11a.m. and 2p.m. on Saturday next the 19th. It is the Club Clean-Up Day. After a ‘can’t watch’ last few minutes for the Na Clocha Liatha supporters, the game ended in a 1-15 (É.Ó) to 2-12 draw, with Barndarrig’s first half goal a bizarre OG.

Peil na gCailíní - Comhgáirdeachas to the four graduates of the Éire Óg ladies football section, Laurie Ahern, Lorna Fusciardi, Meadhbh Deeney (who last year returned from the States where she was on a soccer scholarship) and Aoife Gillen all of whom played on foireann Peil na mBan Cill Mhantáin which, after an unbeaten run in the league, were recently crowned Div.4 champions. Maith sibh a chailíní!

Our under-16 cailíní are Division B county league champions and the manner in which they won their game would suggest that they would not be totally out of their depth in the higher division. Their two last games in the league were away, one in Roundwood against An Tóchar and
