‘A’ plus for Carnew Coláiste Bhríde side claim yet another schools crown
Football final COLISTE BHRÍDE ST KEVIN’S CC 3-13 1-2
THE first half of this Senior girls final in Joule Park, Aughrim, was evenly contested.
Coláiste Bhríde opened the scoring with a Zoe Katus point but in the 11th minute went ahead with a goal by Amy Switzer.
St Kevin’s had the advantage of quite a strong breeze in this half and did produce some fine attacking moves.
At the other end, Coláiste Bhríde showed great teamwork and would have added to their score but for sterling work by St Kevin’s goalkeeper Ciara Farrell and full-back Casey O’Brien.
The Carnew score kicked some nice points to edge ahead but their decisive score came in the 29th minute when Siofra Byrne found the net.
Katie Maguire replied with a quick point at the other end to leave the half-time score 1-5 to 1-2 in favour of Coláiste Bhríde.
The second half started with Coláiste Bhríde Carnew attacking strongly with the wind behind them but it was nine minutes before they scored, this time with a Zoe Katus goal.
They dominated the rest of the game kicking some excellent points and an Aoibhin Myers goal for a comfortable win.
St Kevin’s mounted some promising attacks also but lacked scoring power against a fine Coliste Bhríde defence.
This is a second successive win for the Carnew school as last year they had narrowly defeated the same opposition. Referee was Cathy Forde. After the game Jim Murphy presented the trophy to the Coláiste Bhríde Carnew captain Emma Katus and the vice captains Emily Hadden and Aoibhin Myers.
