Lee-Curran shines in thrilling battle Aughrim stars strut their stuff

Football semi-final COL CHILL MHANTAIN 7-17 ST KEVIN’S DUNLAVIN 8-7

WHAT a game this was. It ebbed and flowed from start to finish.

St.Kevins, aided with the help of a strong first have breeze, rattled in five unanswered goals, leaving the CCM lads taking a ‘standing count’.

However, after 15 minutes CCM settled into the game and showed some great composure to haul back the deficit.

Three green flags and three white flags got the CCM lads back on track with 25 minutes played in the game.

However, at half-time St.Kevins had a healthy lead of 7-2 to 3-6.

The wind in the second half certainly played a huge factor, pinning the St. Kevins defence back, while allowing CCM drive directly at them.

A tour de force performance by Toby Lee-Curran during this period helped CCM dominate proceedings and while St. Kevins battle bravely, and scoring 1-5 againt the wind, the CCM wave of attack after attack eventually overpowered the west college, and CCM go forward to play in the boys first year final.

Best for CCM were: Toby Lee-Curran, Conor Luddy, Joseph Neiland, Alex Sinnott, James O’Donnell, Adam Ralph, Billy Joe Connors.

St. Kevins can acknowledge the effort and skills of P.J. Weldon, Sean Doyle, Liam Metcalf, Oisin O’Freil, Jimmy Flood and David Wright. WELL done to the pupils from Aughrim NS who represented the Garden County at half-time in the Wicklow football championship match in Laois on Sunday.

They wore the blue and yellow with pride and witnessed a win by a Wicklow team in the championship, which rounded off a great day.

Thanks to all involved in the organisation of such a wonderful event, the parents and teachers who travelled, but most importantly the players themselves. We hope they will wear the Wicklow jersey again in the future!
