CATTLE SALE MAY 9: The cattle sales at Baltinglass Mart was held with great success. There was a large entry of quality cattle with farmer demand pushing prices upwards. Forward store continental bullocks making from €2.30-€2.65/KG. Freisan type bullocks making from €1.70-€2.30/KG. Good quality heifers making up to €3.10/KG, with lighter freisan type heifers making up to €2/ KG. Fat cows remaining the same as previous weeks at €2/ KG. Sample Prices as follows.

SHEEP SALE MAY 12: A flying trade for ewes with lambs at foot, with a top price of €225 for young ewes with 1.5 lambs. There was a complete clearance of all stock with a lively trade. Heavier hoggots were making from €120-€142 and the lighter hoggots making from €85-€115. Cast ewes remaining steady from €70-€112. Sample prices as follows.
Hoggots: 50KG €142 (2.84/ KG); 50KG €138 (2.76/KG); 55KG €120 (2.18/KG); 50KG €125 (2.50/KG); 35KG €115 (3.29/KG)
Ewes with lambs: 7 ewes & 10 lambs (full mouths) €165; 3 ewes & 5 lambs (hoggots) €225; 3 ewes & 3 lambs (2 year olds) €185; 3 ewes & 5 lambs (2 year olds) €198 ewes with prices up by €2/€3 per head on last week. Top price of €157 for heavy hoggetts with €154 paid for heavy spring lambs.
