USA VISIT

An Tochar GAA club is delighted to announce the impending visit of James Connolly’s ladies’ football team from Charlotte, North Carolina, USA the Charlotte ladies are the current North American Senior Ladies’ football champions. They made history by being the first ladies’ football team to win this title outside of the ‘Big 4’, San Francisco, Philadelphia, Chicago and Boston. Their victory was especially significant in that it was achieved by a team of all American born players with the exception of two Irish girls who work and reside in Charlotte.

One of these girls is Aoife Kavanagh from Roundwood, who played football from childhood up to adulthood with An Tochar. Aoife’s passion for the game, enthusiasm and determination has helped her American friends to embrace our National game. Since winning the senior title in America it has been Aoife’s dream to bring her Charlotte ladies’ team to Ireland and Roundwood. The girls arrive in the village on Saturday, May 26, and will be hosted by local families.

A tournament will be held on the Sunday with teams from Wexford and Offaly and our own local teams plus the American visitors going head to head. Monday is a rest day taking in some walking around our ‘new walkways’ and a visit to Glendalough. We hope you can give a great Cead Mile Failte to our American visitors when they arrive.
