All Down To Last Two Division 3 League Games to Decide Relegations - With all other divisions completed the attention fell on the remaining two games in Division 3.

Of the four teams involved only one team was safe to hold their Division 3 status.

Ballymore being the odd one out, hovering around mid-table, they were in no danger for the coming season being assured of their Division 3 status. Having to travel to Ryston to take on the home team in this final game wasn’t a concern regardless of the result.

Ryston on the other hand needed all five points on offer to give them a fighting chance of remaining in Division 3. Even with that it would all come down to the result of the second game between Naas and Hollywood?

Close Encounter - As regards the game itself Ryston just edged it in an absorbing match with very little between the teams at any given time. On Mat1 Ryston just held on to win on a score of 16/14. While on the other mat it was also a very close encounter with the home team winning on a scoreline of 17/14

Mat 1; Ryston: Ann Field, Michael Swan, Mervyn Molyneaux and Eileen Kelly.

Ballymore: Paddy Donoghue, Peter Fisher, Tim Counihan and Seamus O’ Brien.

Mat 2; Ryston: Kathleen Moran, Mary Groake, Harry McDonald and Ollie Fitzpatrick.

Hollywood Fail Test with Dismal Display - As to the other match between Naas and Hollywood it was a complete lop-sided affair on both mats.

Although with Naas having home advantage one would have expected Hollywood to put up a stern test to try and hold their Division 3 status.

An easy win for Naas taking all five points, but it still didn’t save them from relegation. A share of the spoils (2.5 points) would have saved Hollywood from the same fate and would have condemned Ryston instead, but on the night they can have no complaints having failed the test with a dismal display. So Naas and Hollywood drop to Division 4 while Ryston survive in Div. 3.

Mat 1; Naas: Helen Gaffney, Margaret Murphy, Pat Ryan and Pat McCormack.

Hollywood: Carmel Tutty, Marie Eustace, Kevin Byrne, Peter Byrne and sub Liam McCarthy.

Mat 2; Naas: June Quinn, Seanie Coyle, Eddie Cahill and Martin Burke.

Hollywood: Olive Houlihan, Seamus Doyle, Padraig Metcalfe, Tony Hogan and sub Bobby Cahill.

Ned Byrne Shield - There were five teams competing in this competition played on Sunday 13th May in the Rathcoffey GAA Hall. The five teams were Allenwood, Balyna, Castlemitchell, Kill CBC and Kildare.

Each team had to play one another on a points system over nine ends per game. In the event of the points finishing level the aggregate of shots would decide the winner.

With so many games it proved to be a long day for both the players and organisers. Nevertheless it was a very enjoyable occasion
