CATTLE SALE–MAY 16: An excellent trade. Good quality store bullocks making up to €3/kg, with the plainer freisan type bullocks making up to €1.80/kg.

Top price of the day was for 3 22 month old Limousin Bullocks weighing 430kg made €1,260. Quality heifers making up to €2.90/kg. Fat cows remaining the same as previous weeks at €2/kg. Sample prices as follows.

Bullocks: HE–500kg €1,340; LM– 530kg €1,310; CH–495kg €1,310; LM–430kg €1,260; CH–450kg €1,210; LM–490kg €1,200; LM–445kg €1,170.

SHEEP SALE–MAY 19: A very good trade seen for ewes with lambs at foot, with a top price of €210 for young ewes with 1.5 lambs. There was a complete clearance of all stock with a lively trade. Heavier hoggots were making up to €140 and the lighter hoggots making up to €107. Cast ewes remaining steady from €70€119. Sample prices as follows.

Hoggets: 35KG €85 (2.43/kg); 37KG €118 (3.14/kg); 39KG €107 (2.73/kg); 41KG €125 (2.50/kg); 35KG €105 (2.56/kg); 43KG €130 (3.05/kg).

Ewes with lambs: 4 ewes & 6 lambs (full mouths) €176; 3 ewes & 5 lambs (hoggots) €225; 1 ewes & 2 lambs (2 year olds) €178; 3 ewes & 5 lambs (2 year olds) €198. Lighter lambs selling from a base of €110 and they being 37kg.

In the hogget ring the numbers starting to dry up but the fleshed hgts over 50kg selling in the region today from €145 up to €152 with some lighter hgts 42kg selling from a base of €110 upwards with the majority of those hgts between €115 and €130.

Feeding type cast ewes from €15 to €20 with the kg with the younger feeding ewes up to €30 with the kg while the heavy ewes up to a tops of €148.

Ewes with lambs at foot selling from €150 for aged ewes with singles up to a tops today of €257 for younger ewes with twins while we saw the special entry of in lamb ewes averaging €155.

MART REPORT FRIDAY MAY 18-Another very large sale today in Tullow with over 500 cattle on offer and the trade holding steady as we have seen for the last number of weeks.

Forward and store type bks FR selling from €1.80 per kg upwards with the good continenta­l bks up to €2.25 and €2.30 for the very forward type weights with some CH bks today 8750kg making €1830. Store bks over 400kg very lively trade for the continenta­l types with some smashing lots of continenta­l bks FR and AA selling from €1.85 and HE from €2 to €2.20 per kg with some of those continenta­l types really sailing up into the close to €3 per kg. 440kg €1140 5 bks 350kg making €1090. Very lively trade for the beef and forward type hfrs selling from €800 up to €1020 with the kg while equally lively trade for the store heifers with lots of farmer custom around the ring for those 300kg to 450kg heifers selling in the region for the HE and AA from €2 up to €2.20 with some of those continenta­l hfrs pushing up close to €2.90 per kg with a lot of hfrs between €2.50 and €2.75 per kg.

FR type cull cows selling from €150 with the kg for the aged feeding type FR with the younger FR up to €350 to €400 with the kg while we saw the continenta­l cows selling in the region today from €250 up to €870 with the kg.

Weanling bulls very lively trade selling from €2.30 per kg for the plainer types up to a tops of €3.10 today for some shipping bulls with the majority of those farmer grade bulls selling from €2.50 to €2.80 per kg.

FR calves for shipping selling from €85 up to €130 maybe a little livelier than we have seen for the last week or two by €5 with the HE and AA from €120 up to €250 for hfrs with some bulls in this class pushing up over the €200 mark with the continenta­l hfrs selling from €280 up to €350 with some continenta­l bulls up to €400.

We have a dairy sale on Tuesday 22nd May at 1pm with 32 milking cows entered and 20 two to four month old hfr calves.
