Brittas Bay school’s first ever day out

- By ESTHER HAYDEN

THERE will be a fun family day out in Brittas Bay on June 24.

Brittas Bay National School will hold its inaugural family fun day in the grounds of the school on Sunday, June 24, from 12 noon.

The family fun day follows on from the annual garden day held recently at the school.

The garden day which is always a huge success saw the school inviting parents and family into grounds to show off its garden which looked fantastic – especially with the great new polytunnel.

Parents were delighted to see the fruits of the labour that has been going on all year. There was an abundance of potatoes, scallions, beetroot and lots of beautifully fragrant herbs growing and being cared for by the very knowledgeable kids from Juniors to 6th Class – all under the watchful and encouraging care of the school gardener, Wendy Nairn.

For those who didn’t make it to garden day, the school is opening its gates to welcome one and all along to the very first family fun day which takes place on Sunday, June 24, in the school grounds.

There will be plenty for all to enjoy including live music, bouncy castle, face-painting, rock painting, storytelling in the enchanted forest with Bridge Street Books, tug-o-war, home-produce stalls, bric-a-brac stalls, and a barbecue as well as raffles with tonnes of fantastic prizes.

Eileen Byrne, principal of the school, said: ‘We’re so proud of the school and all that we achieve and are delighted to be able to show it off.

‘This year we were awarded the ‘Communal Garden Award’ at the Wicklow County Council Environmental Awards and with the proceeds we were able to buy a polytunnel and expand the range of plants and produce.

The event takes place from 12 noon until 4 p.m. in the grounds of Brittas Bay National School and entry costs just €5 per family.
