COMMUNITY GAMES SUCCESS FOR SARAH

-

IT’S BEEN a long time since the Ashford and Glenealy Area celebrated Community Games medal success in the Solo Music category but talented Sarah Thompson has changed all that with a fantastic performance at the national finals.

To make her achievement all the more remarkable, 12-year-old Sarah was competing in the Under-16 section.

The Glenealy girl didn’t let her young age phase her and landed a bronze medal having impressed the judges with her bodhran playing.

Her proud parents Alan and Esther were the first to congratulate Sarah on her wonderful success.

Irish music runs in deep in Sarah’s family and her grandmother is a very active member of Roscrea Comhaltas in Co Tipperary. Her dad Alan also grew up playing music and Sarah soon developed a real passion for Irish music as soon as she first began playing an instrument.

Sarah is a member of the Comhaltas branch in Wicklow town, Boathouse CCE. She has been playing the bodhran since she was aged eight and is currently being mentored by Robbie Walsh of ‘Bodhran Buzz’, a former All-Ireland bodhran champion.

Sarah will be representing Co Wicklow in the Leinster Fleadh this year playing the bodhran in the Under-12 category and everyone at Ashford and Glenealy Community Games wishes her the very best of luck.
