Wild Cats Foróige Club organises pop-up cafe

-

HOMEMADE grilled burgers and cornflake coated chicken were just some of the tasty treats provided for family and friends at the Hillview Community Resource Centre Pop-up Café recently.

The food was served up by members of the Foroige Wild Cats club as part of a joint initiative between the County Wicklow Partnership and the Safe Food Community Food Initiative. The community centre was transformed into a cafe by the Wild Cats through the innovative use of tablecloths, wild flowers and china.

The teenagers worked for a number of weeks in advance of the evening with the Co. Wicklow Partnership and members of the HSE healthy food programme learning food cookery skills and hygiene skills along with tips for presenting a tasty healthy balanced meal.

The tasty healthy menu included melody of melon, seacreast salad, Hillview special curry, apple crumble and fruit salad.

Anthony Hill, Foroige Club leader and Nollaig Cruise of the CWP, Healthy Food programme, presented certificates to the teenagers for their participation in the successful project. MABS provided the teenagers with 101 cookery books and useful budgeting diaries. Wicklow County Council, Environmental waste department, provided the teens with useful information and tips for addressing food wast.

Thanks were extended to Hillview Community Centre, the staff and those who attended the pop up cafe.
