TEACHER RETIRING

As the school year draws to a close, it will also be a milestone one in Kilmacanogue National School. Ms Susan Barry will retire this year and many years dedicated service and everyone would like to thank her and wish her well. To mark the occasion, the parents’ association are having a retirement bash this Thursday (28th) at 8 p.m. at the school and they would like you all to come along and join them.

MUSIC IN CALARY

The latest concert in the 2018 Series takes place this Thursday (28th) at 8 p.m. in Calary Church. Seán Carpio (Drums), Mikkel Ploug and Simon Jermyn (guitar), Jeppe Skovbakke (bass) and Joachim Badenhorst (reeds) will play a concert of original music that will speak about the places of its origin, including Calary, in order to present a complex yet nuanced concert experience transforming musical elements of speech into music.

This is an extremely exciting and innovative project and it will be wonderful to hear the performance that reflects on all the hard work over a long period these musicians have made. Tickets are priced at €18 and €15 with concessions and, to make a booking or seek more information, please contact John at 01 2818146 or derekneilson@eircom.net.

SOCCER CAMP

Well the school closes on Friday and then it’s a weeks rest to prepare for the annual Glencormac United Soccer Camp. It will take place on Monday, July 2, to Friday the sixth at Ryders Field on the Quill Road for boys and girls aged four to 14 with over 60 children signed up. The cost is just €50 for the first child, €80 for two and €110 for a family of three or more (Karl Bradshaw gets great value from it). The camp itself will run from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. under the guidance of Gary Messett and his expert coaches and you can book your child in either by the Glencormac United Facebook page or by phoning the clubs director of football Paul Prendergast at 086 8237892.

GOLF CLASSIC

Glencormac United in conjunction with the Messett Family are holding a golf classic on Friday, August 24, which will be called ‘The Bobby Messett Memorial golf classic’. The sudden loss of Bobby in tragic circumstances recently has shocked us all and this classic is been run to help the family and we know, this community will once again rally behind one of their own without a doubt.

Charlesland Golf Club have been very generous in reducing the costs as have the clubs main sponsor, Helen and Nick of Plucks with food after and it is hoped everyone will make a big effort for the man we called ‘The Dazzler’. Tee Times are from 11 a.m. up to 4 p.m. and a cost of a team of four is just €240 including golf, meal and prizes. It will be played as a four team member scramble whereby every player plays the best ball each time and while these events can be very competitive, this format will suit everyone who does not play on a regular basis.

Of course the main part of these is Tee Box and Green Sponsors and if you cannot play and wish to sponsor one of these at a cost of €100, please phone Trevor Carr (Golf Tee Times) at 086 3286300 or Liam Finnerty (Tee Box Sponsors) at 086 6074821 or contact any of the committee of Shay Kiernan, Paul Prendergast, Colm Mulligan, Colm Griffith or Stephen Hourie.

BOBBY’S MONTHS MIND

Bobby Messett’s month’s mind Mass will take place this Saturday (30th) in Kilmacanogue at 7 p.m. in the church and Fr Dan will celebrate the Mass in memory of his dear friend.

NOTES THIS WEEK

Apologies to anyone who sent an email to me from last Friday lunchtime with reference to notes for this week. It appears that due to recent fires, the broadband cables have been damaged and unfortunately I was one of those effected. Hopefully be back to normal next week.
