NEWTOWN UNITED FC

Meatloaf said two out of three ain’t bad but what about four out of 5? Our lads capped off an already historic season by picking up their fourth trophy of the season they defeated Roundwood 6-2 to retain the Jim McLaughlin Cup, so we finish off the season with four and kind of wondering what could have been with the league but we go again next season and we do so with four winners medals in our pockets, many thanks to the Parkview Hotel and Druids well pub for looking after us. Congratulations to all involved.

NEWTOWN JUNIORS FC

The last games before a well earned summer break as usual brought loads of goals, thrills and spills. On Thursday evening our under-8s hosted Wicklow Rovers Green and both teams went onto provide plenty of exciting football in their series of games. Best for Newtown were Kayla Hamilton, Colin Healy and Gerry Hoban.

Our under-9s had no game as their opponents had all flown off to the sun.

Great game between our 10’s (who are kindly sponsored by Real Debt Solutions) and Carnew in sub tropical conditions. All the goals in this game were scored in the first half as Aidan Heffernan, William Valentine, David Mackey and Dylan Dunleavy hit the net for Newtown. Among those who starred for Newtown were Mikey Synnott, Nichita Neaga, Aaron Roy and Pat Carey.

The under-11s enjoyed a narrow win away to St Anthony’s thanks to goals from Brooklyn Doyle (3), Jake Robertson and Jack Daly.

The under-12s hosted Enniskerry B on Wednesday evening and with a couple of regulars unavailable they had to settle for a share of the spoils in a 2-2 draw. Iggy Szpilka (pen) and Eoghan Fox both scored for Newtown and in doing so notched their first goals of the season. Among those who starred on the evening were Iggy, Aaron Hackett, Hannah Martin and Jack Coughlan. Also special mention to William Valentine, who togged out for the team and did very well.

Our under-14s travelled to take on table toppers Arklow Town and unfortunately they went down to an 8-4 defeat. This was a game where mistakes in defence were punished throughout the game. Newtown’s goals were scored by Luke Breen (2), Charlie Sulivan and an own goal.

These games conclude games now till the end of August beginning of September as we break up for the summer break in the ‘calendar football season’. The WDSL will be running invitational competitions for most age groups over the summer months and we will have further details in the weeks ahead.

We have four players from the club celebrating their birthdays in the coming week and they are Matthew Whelan from the Development Squad, Lucas Dowdall from our under-9s, Pat Carey from the under-10s and Edward Valentine from our under-12s. Happy birthday to all from everyone at Newtown Juniors FC.
