A GOOD WIN

Pats got off to a lively start moving the ball at pace in close passing movements but they fell down badly in the scoring area and had accumulated seven wides by the interval. Mark Doyle from a free and Jack Dunne exchanged points in the first five minutes.

By the tenth minute, Eddie Doyle had pointed two further Rathnew frees.

Jordan Pettigrew converted a free for St Pats’ second point but Paul Merrigan responded with a fine point for Rathnew.

John Crowe was having a fine first half and he moved forward twice to score two points to bring the sides level after 16 minutes.

However, St Pats were not to score for the remainder of the half. They did create a couple of good goal chances but lost the ball at the final move.

One goal in fact was scored but was ruled out because the ball was fisted to the net direct from the hand.

Rathnew were awarded a penalty on 25 minutes when a defender was penalised in the large square for a foot block.

Leighton Glynn neatly tucked the ball away to Collie Byrne’s right.

Mark Doyle added a point off his left foot and Ciaran Coffey completed the first half scoring
