SHILLELAGH

-

Theresa Jordan, Minmore, passed to her eternal reward on Wednesday of last week. To her daughters, Margaret and Theresa, sons, Robert, John and David, and to Theresa’s extended family and friends, deepest sympathy from all connected with Shillelagh G.A.A Club. R.I.P. Theresa.

Well done to Kevin O’Brien, his management team and our county Minor football team who lowered the colours of the all conquering Dubs with an impressive display in Parnell Park on Wednesday last.

The Royal County will provide the final obstacle to what we all hope will be a leinster semi-final appearance and maybe who knows maybe hope for the future.

Commiserations to our ladies county football team who had to give best to their laois counterparts in their Leinster final encounter on Sunday last.

The combination drawn in the club lotto draw on Monday, June 25, was 6, 12, 18, and 20. There was no jackpot winner.

The following matched three numbers and shared €100: Jonathan Behan, Quarry St., and James Driver, Kilcavan. David Nolan won the promoters prize again.

The next draw with the jackpot an enticing €2,900 will take place in Kenny’s Central House on Monday, July 9, tickets costing just €2 are available from our very willing promoters, players and committee members. Your continued support of our fundraising activities are much appreciated.

Well done to all connected with the resurrection of the Ardeen Cheshire Home Garden Fete which was held in ideal weather conditions on Sunday last July 1.

A bit of controversy as to when it was last staged but it was fantastic to see the Cheshire grounds crammed with folk of all ages and hopefully this will become an annual once again. Buala Bos to all concerned, organisers and the people of the locality and surrounding areas for their support.

Pride of place this week to our talented under--11 squad who headed into the west to take on Baltinglass in their latest league encounter on Wednesday, June 27.

Underdogs maybe, but this group tend to cope well with the underdog tag and once again turned on the style and emerged winners by a three-point margin after a thriller. Well done to panel, parents and coaches, Daragh Gregan and David Cullen.

The St. Mary’s under-13 squad made the long journey to Greystones on Monday last, July 2, to take on the home side in their Division of the league. This group have shown massive improvement this year to date and hopefully the match report in next week’s notes will contain positive news.
