Food from our Farms will impress at Tinahely Show

-

PLANS are well under way for one of the main attractions at the annual Tinahely Show – the IFA ‘Food from our Farms’ marquee.

This year’s marquee was launched at the Woodenbridge Hotel where co-ordinator Florence Dagge announced that a record number of exhibitors will set up stall in the tent.

Exhibitors mostly come from County Wicklow and the hinterland and are dedicated to producing food to the highest standard.

There is as always a great variety of gourmet foods which vary from organic hot foods to artisan cheeses, fruit and vegetables, flavoured oils and sweet treats.

Tasty lamb, barbecue beef and chicken burgers will also be sizzling to feed the hungry show-goers.

There will also be strawberries and cream served on the day and delicious home baking. Many exhibitors will be doing tastings and giving advice on preparation.

The bee-keeper with his hive of bees will be in the tent this year and his stand draws a crowd all day. There are two judges each year with the judging taking place during the morning.

Prizes will be presented before lunch and cups are awarded for first overall place and for best Wicklow exhibit. Plaques are presented to the stands in second and third place.

In addition, the IFA Farm Safety Competition is held each year in this Marquee. The competition displays a series of pictures of farming situations in which people have to spot the problems that need correcting.

Farm safety cannot be over-emphasized and this is a timely way of alerting people to the dangers in farmyards given the fatalities that have already taken place this year on farms all over the country. This year’s prizes are cash and vouchers. The committee wishes to acknowledge the generous sponsorship received from M.A. Healy & Sons Ltd., FBD Insurances and Teagasc over the years. With so much on offer the IFA Food Marquee is not to be missed this year on Bank Holiday Monday, August 6.
