BLESSING OF THE GRAVES

The annual blessing of the graves in Kilmacanogue will take place on Sunday, August 19, at 3 p.m. As always, it will begin in the Old Graveyard and then up to the new cemetery. Please make every effort to tidy up a grave that might not have someone to look after it in close proximity of your own loved ones.

SUSAN BARRY RETIRES

Last week was both a joyous and yet sad day in Kilmacanogue NS as we bid farewell to Susan Barry. Susan was honoured with a Retirement Party hosted by Kilmacanogue NS parents’ association as she is retiring after 29 years of dedicated service in Kilmacanogue NS All staff members wish her well and all the best for the next chapter in her life.

The Kilmacanogue Horse Show is coming up now at the end of the month and once again, it is clashing with first day of the Bray Air Show. Unfortunately, unknown to the committee at the time, the Bray Air show also changed the date of their show so it is clashing again and could not change back because the summer show schedule had been set and then be in competition with other shows in Wicklow and Wexford. However, it will not affect the brilliant Horse Show to much it is hoped and everyone will have a wonderful weekend of events for locals all on same weekend.

Families could come to the show on Saturday for an active day getting ‘up close and personal’ to animals, giving their children pony rides, entering the family dog is the friendliest dog show in Ireland, face-painting, photography etc. not forgetting the fabulous Irish Horse breeds all on show, the obedient pony competition, the children’s fancy dress, the ‘style and appearance’ competitions. Two other items of note are as follows:

(1). Lots of volunteers from Local Charities act as Safety Stewards at Kilmacanogue Horse Show. Safety always comes first at Kilmacanogue Horse Show but it’s a lot of work stewarding a 40-acre site and making sure horses, ponies are kept to separate walkways away from people, prams, dogs and wheelchairs. This year volunteers from several charities join the Irish Kidney Association, who have acted as Safety Stewards at Kilmacanogue Horse Show over previous years. Volunteers from Bray Purple House Cancer Support, Spinal Injuries Ireland, Newcourt School and Bray Lakers will be donning Hi Viz Vests as official
