Good attendance at Educate Together patronage meeting

-

OVER 100 people attended a meeting hosted by Educate Together as the campaign to secure patronage of Wicklow’s planned new secondary school begins.

Last week’s meeting was held in Wicklow Educate Together NS and included discussions on how to vote for the patronage process.

Oona Frawley, a WETNS parent and third-level educator, was among those to speak. She provided an overview of the Educate Together second-level system and highlighted what she regards as the benefits of encouraging critical thinking and strong interpersonal skills for students coming into third-level.

It was announced in April that a new 600-student school would open in Wicklow town next year. Four groups have applied to become patrons of the school, Educate Together, Kildare and Wicklow Education and Training Board, Le Chéile Schools Trust and Scoil Sinéad Limited. Parents have until July 31 to vote online for the group they wish to secure patronage of the school at www. patronage.education.gov.ie.
