RACING AT ITS BEST Two wins help Byrne to overall victory in A4 category

-

IT has been a busy start to the summer for SERC with members partaking in both race and sportive events in the first week of July.

SERC League Races

SERC’s own five-league race programme ran through June on the Inch circuit south of Arklow and finished last Wednesday night with a strong turnout each week helped by the warm and sunny long evenings.

In the A4 category, the club’s very own Wayne Byrne took overall victory helped by two wins and several top six finishes. Jason O’Toole and John Maguire helped SERC to three of the top four places with each securing individual victories over the league series.

The league highlighted racing at its best with Wayne and Jason attacking from far out each week while the ever astute John was the king of the sprint finish. Well done to all three and to the rest of the SERC A4 team who aided their teammates tenaciously on the road.

In the A2/3 category, some of the best seasoned and young riders in Leinster competed each week showcasing the talent that the south east has to offer.

Andy Maguire with two first place finishes earned overall victory, followed by Frank Dunne and Paul Byrne. SERC members Ronan Short, Derrick Evans and Tony Barnes all achieved top six finishes in individual races over the course of the league.

All at SERC would like to thank all members and volunteers who gave up their time to help marshal these races ensuring a safe environment for all riders.

A special thank you also to Hayes Transport for the kind use of their grounds.

Leinster and Wexford Time Trial Championship

This was a fantastic result for Jay who is only in his second season of racing and having only recently upgraded to A3 from A4.

Jay Earls went one better in the Wexford individual TT champs taking second in the overall competition beating seasoned A1 and A2 riders in the process.

In the Wexford Team TT event held in Camross, Wexford on July 6, the SERC team of Derrick Evans, Tony Barnes, Ronan Short and Jay Earls finished a very impressive third place against very tough opposition.

In the end, only 18 seconds separated the first three teams home over the tough and undulating 18km circuit.

Well done to all.

The Leinster Loop

A group of SERC club members undertook the Leinster Loop on Sunday, July 1. The sportive is 145km long and takes in counties Kildare, Laois, Carlow and Wicklow.
