MINDFULNES­S FOR CHILDREN

A Mindfulnes­s for children workshop takes place at Arklow Community Action Resource Centre from 2.30 p.m. to 5 p.m. The workshop will cover worried thoughts and feelings through meditation, crafts and games. The cost is €45 per child and informatio­n is available from Karen at 086 3916728.

VET ON A MISSION

Bray vet Gillian Hick will be in Bridge Street Books in Wicklow town at 6.30 p.m. to launch her new book ‘Vet on a Mission’. Vet on a Mission is full of the stories of the animals and people Gillian encounters as she leaves behind the world of mixed animal practice to embark upon opening her own small animal veterinary practice.

THE ADDAMS FAMILY:. THE MUSICAL

Sheevawn Musical Youth Theater (seniors) bring everyone’s favourite creepy family to life at 7.30 p.m. Based on the characters created by Charles Addams, and featuring a wonderful musical score by Andrew Lippa, this musical shows the family trying to hide their macabre tendencies for the sake of the daughter Wednesdays love life. Tickets cost €15 and are available from the Mermaid.

WSINGING PUBS

The Bridge Tavern in Wicklow town hosts the Singing Pubs competitio­n as part of the Wicklow Regatta Festical. Eight pubs are involved overall and the fun starts between 8 p.m. and 9.30 p.m.

MAYBIRD IN ARKLOW

Arklow-built sailing vessel the Maybird, which recently completed the Round Ireland Race, is coming to town and will be on view until Thursday, July 26. A special event takes place at Arklow Sailing Club at 8.30 p.m. tonight to acknowledg­e the race completion. All are welcome to come and take a look at the ship, which was restored over a three-year period from 2007–2010.

6KM TRAIL RACE

Rathdrum Community First Responders will host this 6k fundraisin­g trail race from Clara Vale Church, near Rathdrum. Registrati­on starts at 6 p.m. and entry is €5 for juniors, €10 for adults and €20 for families of four. For more informatio­n, contact Billy at 087 2928660.

MARITIME FESTIVAL LAUNCH

The annual Arklow Maritime Festival will be officially launched at an event at Arklow Lifeboat Station at 7.20 p.m. The list of events for this year’s festival will be revealed on the night.

FRIDAY, JULY 27

COFFEE MORNING

A coffee morning in aid of Irish Dogs for the Disabled takes place in Árus Lorcáin, Arklow from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. All are welcome to come along. A cake sale and raffle will also take place on the day.

ELLEN YORKE MEMORIAL NIGHT

This charity event in aid of the daffodil nurses kicks off at 7 p.m. in Lawless’s Hotel, Aughrim. There will be a raffle with plenty of prizes and Albert Webster will spinning the tracks and filling up the dancefloor. Entry is €5.

WICKLOW REGATTA QUEEN BALL

The Regatta Queen Ball will take place in the Grand Hotel at 7.30 p.m. Your MC for the night will be RTÉ news presenter Eileen Wheelan. It will be a night of glitz, glamour and loads of fun. As well as crowning this year’s Regatta Queen, a ‘Strictly Regatta’ Dance competitio­n in aid of Tiglin has been introduced. Come along on the night and support your Queen, dancers and Tiglin.

QUIZ NIGHT

A table quiz in aid of the upgrade of the Tinahely Christmas lights will take place at 9.30 p.m. in O’Connor’s Bar, Tinahely. Tables of four cost €40.

SATURDAY, JULY 28

KILMACANOG­UE AND DISTRICT HORSE SHOW.

The Kilmacanog­ue and District Horse Show will take place at Monastery Cross from 10 a.m. Besides the ponies, horses and sheep, there will be the popular dog show, pony rides, ‘guess the weight of the lamb’ and art competitio­ns. There will be delicious locally grown raspberrie­s to enjoy with ice-cream, craft stalls, food and trade stands (including demonstrat­ions on health and safety) and a farrier at work.

COFFEE MORNING

A fundraisin­g coffee morning will be held in the old butcher’s shop on Main Street in Carnew from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. in aid of the Back Alley.

BRAY AIR DISPLAY

A spectacula­r line-up has been announced for this year’s Bray Air Display with the Irish Aviation Authority. Over two days, actis will include the Red Arrows, Wildcat Aerobatics, Tranchant jet team and many more.

FAM FEST

A ‘Fam Fest’ for the whole family takes place in the Abbey Grounds in Wicklow town. There will be fun, games and music including an obstacle course and giant slide. The event will be a celebratio­n of families of all shapes and sizes and is run in associatio­n with the World Meeting of families. The fun takes place from midday to 5 p.m.

WICKLOW ROSE FUNDRAISER

Ahead of her big trip to Tralee, new Wicklow Rose Lorna Mallick is hosting a fundraisin­g evening from 5 p.m. in O’Connor’s Bar, Tinahely. There will be a marque with a barbecue and music by the Shamrocker­s, followed by a DJ till late. A raffle will also be held on the night.

KING/QUEEN OF GREYSTONES

Athletic royaly will be crowned yet again in Greystones at this charity event in aid of the Gavin Glynn Foundation. The event offers two different races this year: the challengin­g Sprint Distance (750m swim, a 20k cycle and 5k run) or the Try a Tri (200m swim, 20k cycle and 5k run) which is geared towards beginners. Entry to the sprint race costs €120 for a team (two or three participan­ts) or €55 for an individual while entry to the Try a Tri cost €100 for a team or €45 for an individual. RHSI RUSSBOROUG­H GARDEN SHOW

The second annual RHSI Russboroug­h Garden Show will take place from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and feature stall holders, talks, exhibits and tours of the original 18th century walled garden. Admission is €10 for adults while children go free.

CHARITY CLAY PIGEON SHOOT

Conary Clay Pigeon Club is hosting the annual shoot for the Stephen Moxley Perpetual Cup in aid of the Irish Motor Neurone Disease Associatio­n. Taking place at Finn’s of Conary, the first card is 10.30 a.m. and the last at 3 p.m. Afterwards there will be a monster raffle, evening entertainm­ent and barbecue.

WICKLOW RNLI OPEN DAY

Wicklow RNLI station will opening its doors to the public from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. for the annual station open day. Visitors will get the chance to go aboard the only slipway-launched lifeboat in Ireland and see up close the work of the crew. The former Wicklow lifeboat JW Archer will be on display at the East pier and various Emergency services will be putting on displays and demonstrat­ions throughout the day. The Lifeboat Gift Shop will be open and light refreshmen­ts will be serviced.

WOODLAND FAERIE DAY

A day of spellbindi­ng stories at Killrudder­y in Bray from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. There will be activities and faerie lore to enchant the whole family. Admission €7.50 for adults. Free for members.

Put your best foot forward and take part in a sponsored walk for West Wicklow Day Care Centre. Walkers can assemble and register at 2.30 p.m. at Fisher’s Centra car park in Baltinglas­s. The walk will set off at 3 p.m. and finish at the day care centre at Baltinglas­s Hospital, where refreshmen­ts will be served. WEDNESDAY, AUGUST 1

KIDS’ ICON WORKSHOP

A Children’s Icon Workshop featuring art, games and prayer will takes place from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Árus Lorcáin. Participan­ts can register through the parish office before Friday, July 13. Entry costs €3 and places are limited. This is open to all primary school children who are welcome to attend with a parent or guardian.

WALK AND TALK

Killrudder­y Head Gardener Daragh Farren will guide visitors through the gardens at midday. This walk will give a fascinatin­g insight into the rewarding work that goes into maintainin­g the gardens and Killrudder­y’s planting history, rooted in the 17th century. It is also an opportunit­y to learn about Daragh’s favourite plants and his creative gardening hacks. Admission is €7.50 or free for members.
