TINAHELY
Intermediate football - The first round of the championship took place last Friday at 8pm in Ashford on a wet evening for football.
The opposition was kilmacanogue. Tinahely started off brilliant and raced into a 1-8 to no score lead. Conditions were hard on both teams.
At half-time we were leading 2-8 to 1-4. The second half was a battle as kilmacanogue refused to lie down.
Tinahely ran out winners on a score line of 4-12 to 2-6.
Next up is Dunlavin on Saturday, August 4, at 6.45pm in Baltinglass. Well done to all the players and management on getting the season going.
Junior Football - The Juniors played the county league final last Monday night in Joule Park Aughrim against Blessington who were playing at Junior B level. We had a huge panel to pick from and we used it well.
Tinahely were first to score and pushed on from there with three first half goals to head in at half-time leading by 3-2 to 0-5.
Blessington upped things in the second half and got back level near full-time but Willie Quaile kicked the winner deep into injury time to give Tinahely the win by the slightest of margins. Tinahely 3-7, Blessington 1-12.
The Junior team are now county league Division 4 champions and will play division 3 football in 2019. Congrats to all the players and management. It was a fantastic week for Tinahely football club.
Well done to Matthew Ging on winning the Electric Ireland Minor Player of the Week award. That’s a second Tinahely winner this season.
