BRAY BOWLS

-

Another week of blue skies with the sun shining on our members who undertook a major hedge cutting operation on Tuesday last. Thanks to all who turned up and a special thanks to Brian Walshe for all of the organising. Huge thanks go to the ladies who prepared a lovely breakfast to feed the hungry hordes afterwards.

Our Division 2 team took to the rink on Tuesday night when they defeated Clontarf by 5-2 in the game that was refixed due to the gorse fire on Bray Head the previous weekend. Stephen Morris and the evergreen Sean Shortt were in fine form on the night.

Wednesday saw the ladies travel to Leinster where they brought back two points. Division 6 were also in fine form on Wednesday night when they defeated North Kildare 4-0 to maintain their upward march.

Thursday, as usual, had the three teams in action with Vets 1 recording a good 4-0 win at home to Greenhills to maintain top spot in the league. Vets 2 suffered a heartbreaking one-shot defeat to Blackrock which knocks them out of contention.

Vets 3 brought home one point from Westmanstown. This still leaves them in control of their own destiny. Brendan Duffy’s rink got seven shots on one end, one shy of the maximum available.

On Saturday last the Division 2 team made the long journey to Skerries and in the shadow of the famous windmills they got one point. Nick Howlett, Bryon Dancer and Paddy Pegman were to the fore.

This week has Division 4 at home to Leinster (Monday last), the ladies at home to Dun Laoghaire on Wednesday and Division 6 at home to Westmanstown also on Wednesday. The three Vets teams are in action on Thursday with Vets 1 at home to CYM, Vets 2 at home to Clontarf and Vets 3 making the short trip to Greystones.

This coming weekend has Division 1 away to Crumlin and Division 2 at home to Westmanstown. Both teams are in action on Sunday as well in their respective cup semi-finals against Leinster

Over recent times we have been trying to set up a fundraising committee that would work in conjunction with the executive committee, this subcommittee would be responsible with the running of the fundraising and the suggesting of ways of fundraising for the club. This is a very important part of the progression of the club for the future. We are inviting any person that would be interested in helping out on this subcommittee, it’s your club and if you would like it to progress why not come on
