Drive-in movie at Brittas Bay Pattern day walk

-

Movie-lovers will get the opportunity to watch a film in the comfort of their own cars.

The cult-classic movie Grease will be shown at a drive-In movie as Europe’s largest mobile LED screen visits Brittas Bay.

The screening of the movie starring John Travolta and Olivia Newton John is taking place to celebrate the arrival of Ireland’s fastest broadband network and in-home WiFi provider.

The drive-in movie will also be visiting Wexford, Dundalk and Ennis, but starts off in Brittas Bay on August 10 at the north car park.

Cinema-goers will have the sound from the movie broadcast directly to their car over FM radio. Glenda Gilson, host of Xposé, and social media influencer James Kavanagh will also be present and the duo want to test the public’s movie knowledge by asking people to take them on in the ultimate movie quiz.

People in the four towns will be able to enter in advance via social media to take part in Virgin Media’s Big Movie Quiz.

Tickets cost €10 for one car (up to four people per car) and all proceeds will be donated to the Coder Dojo Foundation.

The annual Pattern Day Walk from Moneystown Community Centre to Lady’s Well Ballymanus Upper on Carrick Mountain will take place Sunday, August 19, leaving Moneystown at 6 p.m.

The route is five and a half miles in total (good walking shoes recommended and no dogs allowed). Suitable for older children accompanied by adults.

The route is along the road and then on Coillte roads. Lady’s well is an ancient holy well that is marked on the Neville Maps of 1760 as an important site. The well was rediscovered in 2013 and there has been a walk every year on or close to the original pattern day.

There will be a short talk on the history and traditions of the holy wells and also relevant local history.

If you want to play music, read a poem or sing a song feel free to join in as singing, dancing etc were all part of the traditions of pattern days and visits to the well.

Refreshments after the walk in Moneystown Community Centre. Any queries please contact Rosaleen at rosaleendurkin8@gmail.com. Facebook page: Wicklow Wells.
