Festival fun for all
THERE were plenty of spills, thrills and entertainment for the whole family at the Roundwood Festival.
Things began on Thursday evening with a guided tour of Altidore Castle and continued on Thursday with a free, fun team challenge and obstacle course held at the GAA centre. Later that evening set dancing and live music took place in Kavanagh’s Vartry House.
The number of events taking place increased with the approach of the weekend. One of the highlights was the canoe races taking place on the Upper Vartry Reservoir on Saturday, with Tom Medlycott ending up the winner of the mens event.
A large crowd also gathered to watch local barmen put through their paces in a race organised especially for their participation. Niall Fanning of Fannings Tochar House Bar was the clear leader heading into the halfway point, however he was eventually piped at the post by Lee Turner of The Coach House.
A vintage vehicle parade took place on Sunday, complete with an IUNVA colour party and the presence of the Wicklow Scouts Group.
There were plenty of entries for a dog show, while other animal lovers attended a pet’s corner. A traditional craft far held in Roundwood Parish Hall featured pottery, wood turning, quilters, weavers, lace making, basket weaving and farrier demonstrations.
Other popular events included a Teddy Bear’s picnic, street music, a veterans football match, a tug of war competition, historical walks and a Blind Date event.
