Minister backing campaign for west Wicklow swimming pool
MINISTER for Health Simon Harris is lending his support to a local campaign to secure a public swimming pool for west Wicklow.
Last week, the Minister met with a group of volunteers who are leading the campaign to deliver a public pool for the people of west Wicklow – the only municipal district in the county currently without one.
Speaking after this meeting, Minister Harris said that the community needs such a facility.
‘West Wicklow needs a community swimming pool; many other parts of our county have such facilities. It is absolutely essential that west Wicklow has equivalent facilities. I believe there are a number of ways of advancing this project once all stakeholders work together,’ he said.
He suggested that Sports Capital Grants could be sought and said that they represent ‘major opportunities to secure investment in our county for sporting and community facilities’.
‘I know that, in the coming weeks, Sports Capital Grants will open again for next year and I will be working with the West Wicklow Swimming Pool Committee as they progress plans to try and deliver a swimming pool for West Wicklow.
‘As Minister for Health, I have no doubt that this community facility could significantly help promote healthy lifestyles and would be a major asset to the community,’ he said.
