VETERAN athlete Mary Nolan Hickey has been revealed as the 2018 Arklow and District Chamber ‘Person of the Year’.

The news was announced by Arklow Chamber President Donal Murray and the award will be presented to Mary at this year’s Chamber Ball and Business Awards on Friday, September 14, in the Arklow Bay Hotel.

The award, sponsored by Servier Ireland Industries, is in recognition of Mary, who, through her amazing achievement, has made an outstanding contribution to the town and is a wonderful Ambassador for Arklow.

On January 1 this year, Mary set off on her ‘Lap of the Map’ challenge, raising funds for the RNLI by running anti-clockwise around the entire coast of Ireland. By the time she arrived back in Arklow on April 14, Mary, at the age of 65, had completed over 1,509 miles – the equivalent of 57 marathons – in 104 days.

In total, Mary raised a staggering €72,000 for the RNLI.

Excitement is mounting ahead of this year’s awards, which will feature key note speaker Bobby Kerr, founder of the Insomnia coffee chain.

To date, there has been a great response from the public in relation to nominations for the other four award categories.

Nominations can be sub- mitted via www.arklow.ie and will be accepted until Friday, August 24. A shortlist of these nominations will be revealed in the run-up to the awards.

The Arklow & District Chamber Ball is a highlight of the business event calendar and this year it promises to be a wonderful night to celebrate all that is good about business in Arklow and the surrounding area. Both members and non-members are welcome to attend.

Tickets are priced at €60 or a table of 10 is €550. Anyone who would like to purchase tickets should contact the Chamber office on 0402 26909 or email chamber@arklow.ie
