GAA CLUB NEWS

Thank you to everyone who supported La Le Club last Sunday. The attendance wasn’t as high as other years but everyone enjoyed the day. The underage matches were very enjoyable. After they were over. The lads played a match for the Ciaran Shannon cup. Gerard Shannon presented the cup to Michael Doyle the winning captain. The day concluded with the duck race in the river. Over 450 ducks set off and congratula­tions to Mary Carty for winning first prize and Trish O’Keefe on winning second prize.

LOTTO – On August 13 numbers drawn were 1, 10, 24 and 26; no jackpot winner; no matchthree winners. Next week’s jackpot, €2,400. Next week Match 3’s divide €200.

WHIST

There will be a whist drive in Annacurra Community Hall on Saturday night next August 25 starting at 9 p.m.

COMMUNITY GAMES

We had a great weekend in Limerick with our eight finalists getting through to semi-finals and finals. Unfortunat­ely no medals but came close. Congratula­tions to you all Paraic, Hannah, Anna, Caolin, our under-16 mixed relay team. Laci Jane, Alannah Coleman and Paraic in their individual competitio­ns.

You were all great for travelling supporting and getting into the spirit. Great weekend all national winners in our eyes. Very proud of our Community Games children and club.

SR. BREDA BYRNE

This weekend we celebrateb­rated the Golden Jubilee of the Profession of Sr. Breda Byrne. We thank God for her witness as a religious in a world where it is becoming harder to proclaim one’s faith. We wish her every blessing for this wonderful occasion. We thank her for her service to the people of God throughout so many years. We wish her well and many happy years in the future.

ANNUAL SHEEP SHOW

The 51st annual Aughrim Sheep Show and sale will take place in Carnew Mart on Friday, September 7, starting at 9 a.m. Entries forms are available from Alan Kinsella 087 2792157 or padraighea­ly4@hotmail.com. Presentati­on Cabaret will be held on the night in O’Toole’s, Aughrim at 9 p.m. Many thanks to all who supported the Commemorat­ive Book. TAI CHI/QI GONG CLASSES

Learn gentle flowing healing movements that relieve stress, improve flexibilit­y and mobility. Tai Chi and Qi Gong Classes Wednesday evenings from 7 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Aughrim Sports and Leisure Complex. Cost €80 for a block of eight classes. New block commencing Wednesday, September 5 – beginners welcome.

GYMKHANA

The annual Gymkhana will be held in Coolgreany on Sunday, September 23, in Coolgreany, and plans are advancing favourably for that day, which is always very worthwhile with some lovely Trophies and Cups to be won, and also some very good prizes in the very popular Dog Show section.

HANDBALL LOTTO

Coolgreany Handball lotto now stands at €6,500, lotto tickets are available in Jim Short’s, Coolgreany post office, O’Rafferty’s. A new prize format is now in place, with seven lucky dips worth €30 each and one Seller’s prize. No winner last week. Drawn Numbers: 1, 9, 22 and 31. Your weekly support is very much appreciate­d by the club.
