1 MOVIE SCREENING: The film ‘The Happy Prince’ will be on at Mermaid Arts Centre in Bray on Monday, September 8 at 8 p.m. Free from prison after two years of hard labour in Reading Gaol, Oscar Wilde (Rupert Everett) is forced to live in exile in Europe. He yearns to reunite with his children, but ill-health and a misguided reconcilia­tion with his beloved Bosie propel him towards a disastrous and ultimately fatal existence. Supported by loyal friends Reggie Turner (Colin Firth) and Robbie Ross (Edwin Thomas), who try to protect him from his own excesses, Wilde courageous­ly lives out his last years by falling back on the creativity, charm and brilliant wit that defined him. Tickets are €8 or €6.50 concession and available at mermaidart­scentre.ie. 2 GAA ACTION: Getting out to any of the crunch Renault Senior Football Championsh­ip clashes over the weekend should be top of any GAA fan’s list of things to do in Wicklow. Five pivotal fixtures in terms of placings ahead of the quarter-finals are down for decision. On Friday, come back kings A GB will look to put one foot in a county semi-final by beating Annacurra. Avoiding the Keating Trophy is the prize for the winners of Avondale and Bray Emmets on Saturday. An actionpack­ed Sunday afternoon sees Blessingto­n look to keep their championsh­ip dreams alive when they take on unbeaten St Patrick’ s. Awinfor defending champions Rathnew against Éire Óg Greystones in Aughrim at 5pm will likely secure their semi-final place. Any other result would put Hollywood in the last four providing they can topple Kiltegan in Baltinglas­s on Friday at 7.15pm. See Sport for fixture details. 3 WALK AND TALK: Walkandtal­kwith Killrudder­y Kitchen Gardener Frank Jesper on Saturday, September 8, from 12 mid day until 2.30p.m. Roam an authentic Victorian Walled Garden with Frank Jesper. This is a great opportunit­y to learn from Frank Jesper, as he divulges the trials, tribulatio­ns and celebratio­ns in regenerati­ng a Victorian Walled Garden that now produces incredible cut flowers and edible crops. Tickets €7.50 or free to Killrudder­y members. 4 VICTORIAN FIELD DAY: The Enniskerry Victorian Field Day will take place at Monastery House, Enniskerry on Sunday, September 9. The day will feature competitio­ns for best dressed, bouncy castles, pony rides, a pet farm, games, kids’ sports and races, dog show, competitio­ns, arts and crafts, music, soapbox race, food festival and much more. Entry is €10 for adults while children go free and there is free parking. 5 THE LAKES 10K: The Lakes 10k in Blessingto­n celebrates its tenth anniversar­y and this year’s event will also include a half marathon. The Lakeshore Striders organised event takes place on Saturday, September 8. The route, on closed roads, takes you around a section of the scenic Blessingto­n Lakes. Starting on the bridge crossing the lake, the route heads towards Manor Kilbride, before you turn back toward Blessingto­n to face the only climb on the route. It’s then downhill to the finish line. The Half Marathon will start at 10.45 a.m. and the 10K race will start at 11 a.m. Registrati­on is open on popupraces.ie. 6 COOLGREANY VINTAGE DAY: Coolgreany will host its first ever vintage and classic car event on Sunday, September 9 as vintage enthusiast­s from across North Wexford, South Wicklow and surroundin­g counties flock to take part. As well as a showcase of vintage and classic vehicles, the day will also include plenty of family fun and entertainm­ent. A variety of fun children’s activities will be organised including a bouncy castle, swings, pet’s corner, bottle fishing, novelty stalls and bric-a-brac. Jumble stalls and vintage dress will also form part of the occasion and there will be no shortage of musical entertainm­ent thanks to Ferns singer Stacey Breen. The show opens at 1 p.m. and runs throughout the afternoon. 7 CAMINO DE GLENDALOUG­H: The 2018 Diocesan Camino de Glendaloug­h will take place on Sunday September 9 and pilgrims will be welcome to join the Camino at any point during the day. They can choose to take the full 30 kilometre pilgrimage following St Kevin’s Way from Hollywood in West Wicklow to Glendaloug­h or a shorter route. The day will start with a Service of Holy Communion and Pilgrim blessing in St Kevin’s Church in Hollywood at 9 a.m. Once again, St John’s in Laragh will act as a hub during the day with buses available to ferry people to the Wicklow Gap for shorter walks. The day will conclude with a short service at the Upper Lake in Glendaloug­h. The first Camino de Glendaloug­h took place in 2016.
