JOY FOR WICKLOW U-16 camogie team claim All-Ireland honours
WICKLOW camogie achieved national success last weekend when their Under-16 players defeated Donegal to claim the Progress to Success crown in style.
The final of this development competition was played in the GAA Games Development Centre in Abbottstown on Saturday. Wicklow were in the decider following a very successful run of games since July 1.
Donegal provided the opposition and both sides took a while to settle into the game with Donegal registering the first score after five minutes.
Wicklow soon found their range and had points from Katie Tyrrell, Amber House, Sive Byrne and Kasey Byrne before Kasey then found the net to leave it Wicklow 1-9, Donegal 0-1 at half-time.
As they made their way out for the second half it quickly became apparent that these Wicklow girls meant business and they soon put Donegal to the sword with a series of killer attacks - Alice Mulhall and Daisie Summer Cullen Dunne showed no mercy as in quick succession they scored five goals.
Donegal had no answer when Wicklow got into their stride but continued to battle to the end.
Final score: Wicklow 6-12, Donegal 0-5.
