Social housing for Baltinglass gets approval
AT LAST Monday’s monthly meeting of Wicklow County Council the elected members voted in favour of a Part 8 allowing for the construction of 34 houses in Baltinglass.
The development and all associated works will take place at Whitehall and will consist of 23 two bed houses and 11 three bed houses, all two storey.
Cllr Edward Timmins welcomed the provision of social housing in west Wicklow but also felt the council should consider a walkway.
‘This development will be near the town park at Parkmore and near the river Slaney. Would it be possible to put a walkway in place? I would ask that consideration be given toward putting some sort of walkway that would link up with the new development,’ said Cllr Timmins.
Cllr Vincent Blake also offered his support to the proposed walkway.
‘This will be the first social housing development in south west Wicklow for many years. I also welcome the proposal over the walkway’.
Director of Services Joe Lane said he expected work on the housing development to start next year.
Twenty-three councillors voted in favour of the Part 8. No one opposed it and nine members weren’t present during the vote.
