Mountain rescue teams assist walkers in separate incidents

-

WICKLOW’S mountain rescue teas were involved in two rescues on Saturday, September 1 - one involving a walker with a leg injury.

At 12.56 p.m. Dublin and Wicklow Mountain Rescue Team and Glen of Imaal Mountain Rescue Team were tasked by An Garda Síochána to assist a walker with a lower leg injury on Montpellier Hill, close to the Hell Fire Club. Mountain rescue personnel were deployed to the scene where they assessed the injury and then transported the walker to a waiting ambulance. The incident was stood down at 1.51 p.m. Both rescue teams were called back into action later that evening after receiving word at 7.36 p.m. of a walker in trouble on Lugnaquilla, Leinster’s highest peak.

A lone walker had become tired and disorientated while descending from the summit of Lugnaquilla. Mountain rescue personnel attempted to locate the walker using Sarloc Rescue but were unsuccessful. As light was fading, teams were deployed to search areas that had the highest likelihood of success. Once located, mountain rescue members accompanied the walker off the hill to safety. The incident was stood down at 9.46 p.m.
