On a wonderful season

-

us on with no fear and they went onto the final - fair play to them. And in the other three cups we lost to Newtown in the Jim McLaughlin quarter-final 2-0 in the People’s Park which was another tight game with Newtown making it 2-0 in the 87th minute. In the Charlie O’Leary Cup we lost 2-1 with an unlucky own goal in the semi-final and we lost the Charlie Bishop final on pennos.”

There will be seven new/old faces returning to the WDFL this campaign but none will ply their trade in the top flight meaning that the six sides must face-off three times apiece. It’s not an ideal scenario for Conyard but his toys will remain in his pram.

“It’s great to see clubs coming back. It’s a pity none of them are in the Premier but with a bit of luck two or three will step up next year.

“Fifteen games in the Premier this season - it is what it is we will just get on with it. Playing each other three times might get a bit repetitive especially as we’ll be guaranteed to play each other again in cup games as well but sure look we’ll just get on with it.”

Rovers face a formidable schedule as they potentially compete in eight competitions and they are one of the sides that everyone will want to say they have beaten.

“This year we will be in Leinster Senior Cup, Leinster Junior Cup, FAI Junior Cup, Premier League, Charlie Bishop Cup, Jim McLaughlin Cup, Wicklow Cup and possibly the Charlie O’Leary Cup so it’s going to be busy.

“There has been a target on our head since we won our first league in 2014/15 season, it’s the nature of the game. We have won one of the big two (Premier League/Wicklow Cup) every year for the last four so of course teams will be looking to get one over on us. It never bothers us – we accept it and it drives us on.”
