STUDENT COUNCIL ELECTIONS

The Coláiste Chraobh Abhann Student Council elections will take place on Monday, September 10. Congratula­tions to the following students who were nominated to run for the Student Council for the year 2018-2019.

The First year students running are: Seán O’Neill, Sophie Dowds, Cayden Elliott, Sophie Murray Lacey, Lara Gillan, Callum Walsh, Jack Pistoor, Daniel Pegman, Emma Walsh, Jack Daly, Charlotte Pelz, Laura Stephens and Alex O’Connor.

The Second year students running for election are Ella Mackey, Evan Burke and Ciara Jackson.

Third year students are Ben Kiernan, Miriam Bhunu, Seán Sally O’Toole, Cora Heffernan. Rebecca Gillan, Jeremiah Scott, Seán Cummins, Luke Synnott, Conor Brown and Shane Collins.

TY student nomination­s are Lucy Shortt, Lucy Phipps Rooney, Jakub Hamdona, Stephen Kearns, Bobby Brady, Jason Gallagher, Ben Hunt, Jordan Gregory, Conor Daye, Hannah McConnell and Lara Harrison.

Fifth year nomination­s are Hyrum Scott, Hetty Walter Messitt, Alannah Melia and Adam Gallagher.

Sixth year nomination­s are Joshua Carruthers, Aisling Dalby, Orla Enright Quigley, Ross Carthy, Sarah Brown, Oisín Gilnagh, Martin McMahon, Victor Cahill and Katie Vickers.

Coláiste Chraobh Abhann’s Open Night will take place on Thursday, September 20, from 6.30 p.m. to 9 p.m. Come meet our staff and students and get a flavour of what makes Coláiste Chraobh Abhann so special.

Take a tour around the school and see the wonderful facilities our school has to offer. Speak with our experience­d teachers about the broad subject choices on offer in our Junior Cert, Transition Year, Leaving Cert and Leaving Cert Applied programme. Also sample our wide options in extra-curricular activities including the school musical, sport clubs, school choir, drama club, student council and much much more.

1ST YEAR PARENT INFO NIGHT

The First year Parent Informatio­n night will take place on Thursday the 13th at 8 p.m. in Coláiste Chraobh Abhann where any questions you have regarding your child’s education here in CCA will be answered. We look forward to seeing you there. The Informatio­n Night will be followed by the Parent Associatio­n AGM at 9 p.m.

EXTRA-CURRICULAR

The extra-curricular activities for this year will be starting up this week. Please see the notice board for the times and days for the activity you would like to be involved in. There is a great choice of activities to choose from, including football, debating, drama, music, athletics and so much more. We encourage everyone to get involved in an activity you may be interested in.

FIRST YEAR BONDING TRIP

The First year bonding trip will take place on Monday, September 10, from 11.15-3.55 where they will take part in various team building exercises. The following Peer Mentors, Isobel Murphy, Jenitta Jimmy, Kian Marah, Hannah Cullen, Ciara Murphy and

Sixth year students will be attending Higher Options 2018 on Tuesday, September 12, in the RDS Students will have the opportunit­y to get first-hand informatio­n from the colleges and universiti­es they may wish to attend next year. There will also be informatio­n available on apprentice­ships, as well as talks and lectures on various courses that will help them select the right course for them.

TY TRIP TO CAUSEY FARM

A two-day TY team building trip will take place on Thursday, September 13, to Causey Farm in County Meath. Students will enjoy a variety of activities from kayaking, pizza making and bog swimming. Students are advised to bring old clothes, wellies, a sleeping bag and warm clothes. They will return to the school on Friday the 14th at approximat­ely 4 p.m.

CLASS OF 2018

The Class of 2018 have graduated from East Glendaloug­h School and have headed on to pastures new. They achieved spectacula­r results - we have never had more students over 400 points (60%) - and far more importantl­y more than 95% of them have gone on to further and higher education. We wish them all the very best in their bright futures.

CAREERS

6th year students are going to Higher Options Careers Conference in the RDS on 12th September where over 150 colleges will be exhibiting & a variety of careers talks will take place.
