WELCOME BACK
We are delighted to welcome back all of our students and teachers to school from their summer holidays. In particular we welcome our new First years and all of the students who have joined our school in other year groups.
Welcome, too, to all of our new teachers; Ms Mannion, Ms Wallace, Ms O’Callaghan, Ms Hudson, Ms McGarry, Ms Broggy, Ms Noone, Ms McDonnell, Mr Fortune and Mr Keenan we are confident that they will enjoy their time in Coláiste Chill Mhantáin. We also welcome back Ms Condren and Ms Davoren from Career Break and wish Ms O’Brien and Ms Dunne well in their new positions.
Finally we would like to extend our very best wishes to Mr Dunne, Ms Aylmer, Ms Kilgallen and Ms Langrell on their retirements. We extend our appreciation to each of them for their valuable contribution to our school over the past number of years and we look forward to celebrating the occasion of their retirements with them at a later date.
EXAMINATION RESULTS
Congratulations and very well done to our Leaving Certificate Class of 2018 on their excellent examination results. We wish our graduating students well and hope that they continue to enjoy success in their third level courses, careers and future life paths. Thank you, also, to their parents and teachers who supported the students in achieving their potential during their time in our school.
1ST YEAR INFO EVENING
A large number of parents and students attended the First year Information Evening which forms an integral part of the enrolment process to our school. Thank you to Ms Crossan and Ms Thornton, Year Heads, who provided those gathered with an overview of the pastoral care structures in the school and to the Tutors, who were also in attendance. The Senior Mentor team also attended and will provide a comprehensive schedule of First year activities over the course of the coming year. Ms Fitzgerald and Mr Stack, Deputy-Principals, welcomed the students, provided information and advice about their timetables and subject options, wished the students well and reminded them of the importance of this first step of their journey in Coláiste Chill Mhantáin.
FIRST YEAR WALK
On Friday, September 7, our First year students, accompanied by their mentors and Pastoral Care team, participated in the annual First year Walk which forms part of the Induction programme for First years. The walk through the Derrybawn Woodland Trail in Glendalough provided the students with a great opportunity to get to know each other, their mentors and tutors. Many thanks to the tutors and mentors who did an excellent job in ensuring the First year students had a fun and memorable day. We look forward to many more enjoyable events throughout the year.
LOURDES 2018
Best wishes to the students from CCM who have been selected to travel with pilgrims who are going to Lourdes with the Dublin Archdioceses. We know from experience that this will prove to be a very enjoyable, humbling and life affirming experience for all involved. Thank you to all who have supported the student fundraising for this adventure.
SENIOR PREFECT TEAM
Senior Prefects provide an important liaison between students, teachers and school management. This highly respected position demonstrates leadership, team work and responsibility that reflect the ethos of the school at all times. TY TRIP TO BALTINGLASS
Transition Year students travelled to Baltinglass for a full day of activities during their first week back to school. They took part in kayaking, orienteering, archery, zip lining, and climbing walls. The weather stayed dry for the day which added to what was a thoroughly enjoyable experience.
LEAVING CERT APPLIED
Best wishes to the LCA students who commence their work experience in various placements throughout the Wicklow area. We extend our sincere appreciation to the many employers and organisations who support these placements and provide the students with a meaningful life experience which will contribute to their Leaving Cert results and indeed their future career paths.
GOLF CLASSIC
We would like to thank the many parents, businesses, students, teachers and supporters of our school who ensured our inaugural golf classic was an enjoyable day for all involved. Thanks in particular to Ms Fitzgerald, DP, and her core committee for their excellent organisational skills; nothing was left to chance. We hope this start will ensure that this fundraiser will be a staple on our school calendar with funds raised all returning to extracurricular activities and student services.
A very special welcome is extended to all our new first year students who arrived in on August 27 from all the local schools. The first year Induction Day was a great success. Prefects, mentors and ember leaders helped organise and run the day. First years continued their fun with a bonding day on Monday the 28th a great day was had by all with bowling and lots of group activities. Many thanks to all the students and staff involved.
LEAVING CERT RESULTS
Huge congratulations to all our Leaving Certificate students who received their long awaited results on August 15 you did us proud. Well done and we wish you all every success in your chosen paths. You are always welcome to drop into us for advice or just to let us know how you are getting on.
TANZANIA
Over the summer a group of 12 students from DCW headed to the School of St Jude in Tanzania. The girls had spent the year fundraising for this school with many activities from car washing, dog walking, balls, camps to movie
We would like to welcome our new staff members Ms Bonita Darcy (Physics, maths), Ms Elaine Stafford (Biology, Science), Ms Shauna O’Toole (music, RE) Ms Mary Hennessy (Home Economics, RE) and Ms Rachel Mooney (Japanese, English). We wish them all well here in DCW.
TEXACO ART COMPETITION
Congratulations to Leah Murphy (three Opal) and Hannah O’Shea (two Opal) who both received ‘Certificates of Commendation’ in the Texaco Art Competition, 2018. Well done, girls.
DEBS BALL
Congratulations also to the class of 2018 who had their Debs Ball in late August. The girls in all their finery started their evening with a reception in Fatima Hall. They then headed off to Swords in Dublin for a fun filled evening. Word has it that a very good night was had by all.
HIGHER OPTIONS
Senior students will attend the Higher Options Conference held in Simmonscourt, RDS, Dublin on Thursday, September 13. Higher
Preparations are under way for the annual school Mass to celebrate the start of the new school year. It will be held on Friday, September 21.
PARENTS ASSOCIATION AGM
The parents’ association AGM will be held on Thursday, September 20, at 7.30 p.m. All parents of students in the school are encouraged to attend. The parents’ association carries out valuable work for the school including fundraising which is much appreciated by all.
