WELCOME BACK

Welcome back to all our students we hope that a good summer break was had by all and we look forward to another successful year in DCW. A big ‘cead mile failte’ is extended to all our international students who have now arrived and settled into life in DCW Some of the girls are here for just five weeks, others a full term while some will stay with us for the full year. We hope that they will learn plenty of English and have a great experience here in Wicklow.

FIRST YEARS

nights. They were successful in raising €72,000 which was a huge achievement.

The School of St Jude is a charity-funded school located in Arusha, Tanzania. It was founded by Gemma Sisia and her husband Richard in 1998. The school opened on January 29, 2002, with only three students. Today, the school has almost 2,000 students. They provide a free, high quality education to the poorest and brightest children in the area. If it wasn’t for this school they would have little to no education at all.

The group got to visit the school and visit the local villages where the students live. They also got to visit an orphanage and the local public school. It was a fantastic experience for all involved. Huge thanks goes to Mr O’Brien for organising the trip and overseeing the huge range of events over the past year. Thanks also to Ms Cremin and Mr O’Loughlin for travelling to Tanzania with the group during the summer.

NEW STAFF

All sporting activites are now getting started. Senior hockey is up and running with training after school on Mondays. Junior hockey will have training on Thursday after school. Please see Ms Carthy or Ms Kelly for details on any of our sporting options. The Athletics Club will be starting shortly after school for all years with Ms Wadden. This club is to prepare for the cross country competitions. The club is looking forward to having a successful year to follow on from their last year successes.

The girls are also busy with the preparation for their musical which this year will be ‘The Wizard of Oz’. Their production will run from 19th to December 21.

The TY students are now fully immersed in all their subjects which this year include yoga and Japanese as well as Photography and First Aid. TY’s are busy designing their outfits for this ‘Junk Kouture’ fashion competition to be held in January 2019. We wish all the TY students all the best in their year ahead.
