AUDITIONS

Auditions for Coolgreany Amateur Dramatic Society’s forthcomin­g production of ‘Juno and the Paycock’ by Sean O’Casey will take place at 7.30 p.m. on Sunday September 16 at St Mogue’s, Inch. It promises to be a great show, and there are a lot of parts for all ages, including some good beginners’ roles.

The show will be performed in late January. Rehearsals will start at the end of September. For further informatio­n phone Carl Nuzum at 087 289 9523.

GYMKHANA

The annual Gymkhana will be held in Coolgreany on Sunday, September 23, and plans are advancing favourably for that day, This is always very worthwhile day out with some lovely trophies and cups to be won in all of the different horse and pony events, and also some great jumping in all of the Children’s jumping classes. In conjunctio­n with the Gymkhana there will be a big raffle, with tickets on sale at present. The prize money here is first prize of €500, second prize of €200, and three other prizes of €100 each. Everyone is welcome and all proceeds will go to St David’s Church Funds.

TIDY TOWNS

The keep Wexford Beautiful Competitio­n is taking place over the next few weeks and the committee are asking people to keep the grass verges and footpaths litter-free, the village is looking well with all the seats, tables, flower pots and hanging baskets looking splendid.

BIRTHDAYS

Birthday greetings to Róisín Condren, Monaglough; Michelle Hughes, Ballylacey; Darby Guilfoyle, Askinch; and Jack Scallan, Kilahurler, who celebrated their birthdays over the past week. Good wishes to all of them.

POST OFFICE CLOSURE

A very large number of people assembled in Coolgreany School on last Wednesday night to support the local post mistress, and to hear what are the possibilit­ies of retaining post office services in Coolgreany are, with a number of county councillor­s offering their support. It was agreed to write to An Post protesting at the closure.

HANDBALL LOTTO

Coolgreany Handball lotto now stands at €6,900, lotto tickets are available in Jim Short’s, Coolgreany post office, O’Rafferty’s. A new prize format is now in place, with seven lucky dips worth €30 each and one Seller’s prize. There was no winner last week. Drawn Numbers: 1, 9, 22 and 31.
