THE Transition Year students at Dominican College got their fundraising off to a mouthwatering start last Thursday when they held a coffee morning.
The annual coffee morning which is traditionally held the day after the students receive their Junior Certificate results raised a total of €738 for Wicklow Hospice.
Teacher Therese Goff said the event had been a great success. ‘All 77 of our TY students turned up on the day and they organised the whole thing in advance. The coffee morning is initially opened to the senior classes and the staff who are served by the TY students and then it is opened to the public.
‘At lunchtime there is a cake sale for the junior classes. It’s a nice way for the girls to celebrate their Junior Certificate results and they really enjoy it.
‘They take the responsibility of it very seriously and many of them make baked goods as well for the event. It kicks off the start of the fundraising they will do in the school as part of the TY experience as well. They received great support and were delighted with the money raised for the hospice.’
