VIKINGS AND GARDAÍ UNITE!

VIKINGS AND gardaí joined forces for a special fundraiser held in the Bridgewate­r Shopping Centre recently.

‘Cops and Donuts’ is a novel event involving members of the gardaí, Special Olympics athletes and volunteers selling donuts to raise funds and awareness for the Special Olympics Eastern Region, which stretches from Arklow right up to Balbriggan in Dublin.

Members of Arklow Vikings Special Olympics Club, the gardaí and volunteers were joined by ‘Jelly’ the mascot as they set up their stall at the centre on Saturday, September 8, and sold delicious donuts from Kelly’s Bakery in Wexford.

Cops and Donuts is a worldwide event for Special Olympics organised by the Law Enforcemen­t Torch Run Committee. Currently, close to 90,000 police profession­als in over 35 countries participat­e in this worldwide effort to raise money and awareness for Special Olympics.
