Emotional night nets big result for charity
THERE was a massive turnout in Shamrock Park, Rathnew last week for the inaugural Jordan Quinn memorial match.
Jordan of Wilton Manor, Rathnew, died suddenly last
May. A talented sportstar, Jordan had been a member of the Rathnew AFC who won the Thomas Scott championship prior to his death.
Last week, the club, with the support of Jordan’s family, organised a charity memorial match in his honour with donations going to the Tree of Hope organisation.
Club secretary Mark Snell said the event had been a huge success.
‘It was an absolutely brilliant night. We had a great turnout and raised €1,157 for the Tree of Hope organisation. It was such a success that we are investigating the possibility of establishing an annual children’s tournament which would be named after Jordan.
‘For the match, we got Jordan’s former team mates from the Thomas Scott winning team and they played against a group of Jordan’s family and friends.
‘Jordan’s family were all there and it was a very emotional night for them. They were very touched by the amount of people who turned up and it was a very fitting tribute to Jordan, who was such a lovely young man, full of life and fun.
‘On the night, we had a minute’s applause to remember Jordan. The level of support we had from people was phenomenal and lots of people were anxious to help out in whatever way they could.
‘It was a true testament to the regard that Jordan was held in.’
