Driver put off the road
Brian Steadmond with addresses at Monbay, Craanford and Main Street in Shillelagh was convicted at Gorey District Court last Thursday of a drink drive offence.
The judge heard how the 39-year-old accused motorist came to the attention of Garda Patrick O’Doherty on the night of July 22 on McCurtain Street in Gorey.
The garda heard a car wheel spinning and noticed a Peugeot with no lights on. He later arrested Steadmond.
A urine sample confirmed that the defendant was over the legal limit for alcohol.
His solicitor told the court his client was a father of three, currently resident in Shillelagh and drawing social welfare.
The conviction came with a fine of €400 and two years off the road.
