Aldi donates €500 each to hospice and rescue boat
TWO very good causes in Co Wicklow have reaped the benefit of Aldi’s 2018 Community Grants programme.
The Wicklow Hospice Foundation and Blessington Rescue Boat Service were presented with cheques for €500 each at the stores in Arklow and Blessington respectively.
The grants were made in recognition of both groups tremendous work with the local community. Wicklow Hospice Foundation has recently begun building its 15-bed facility at Mageramore while the Blessington team is in the midst of a fundraising campaign as it attempts to purchase a new rescue boat.
Now in its third year, hundreds of charities have been supported by the programme to date with over €200,000 donated by Aldi.
‘We are delighted our Arklow store employees have chosen to support the Wicklow Hospice Foundation, as they work to better the local community as a whole by building the first hospice in Wicklow,’ said John Curtin, Group Buying Director at Aldi Ireland, adding that the Blessington employees were just as keen to reward the ‘pivotal role’ played by the rescue team in keeping the local lakes safe.
Aldi’s Community Grants Programme provides employees with the opportunity to nominate a local charity, community group or not-for-profit organisation. Nominated charities are then assessed, with the organisation deemed the most worthwhile receiving the €500 donation.
