LFA Junior Cup first round
ASHFORD Rovers ‘A’ flew the flag for the Wicklow League in grand style when overcoming Thomastown United on Saturday in the first round of the LFA Junior Cup.
Andy Earls himself to a double for the Wicklow representatives, with Danny Byrne also hitting the back of the net in a 3-1 win.
St Peter’s put up a good showing, losing out by the odd goal in seven away to Ashbourne United, while Newtown United lost 4-0 to a strong Freebooters outfit in Kilkenny.
A James Delahunty goal wasn’t enough for Glencormac as they succumbed to a 2-1 defeat to Mill Celtic, while Arklow United A lost out 3-1 to Swords Celtic.
Adam Tuke bagged both goals for Avonmore AFC in their 5-2 loss to New Park FC, while St Anthony’s suffered a heavy 7-0 defeat to Kilmore Celtic.
Lee Doyle and Brian Thompson got the goals for Arklow Celtic ‘A’ in their 6-2 loss to Willow Park in Athlone, while Carnew AFC lost 3-0 away to Monksland United.
Division 3
A John Andy Kinsella hat-trick helped Dearg Celtic to a thrilling 5-3 win over Arklow Town on Sunday.
Alan Power and Jordan O’Connor got the other goals for the winners, with Joe Ledwith (two) and Kyle Dowling replying for Town.
Tom Treanor netted all three goals for Dargle Rovers as they earned a 3-1 win over Coolboy Rangers, while a late Chris Sillery strike earned Ashford Rovers ‘B’ a share of the spoils with Shamrock Celtic. Aidan Small had fired Celtic in front moments earlier but they couldn’t hang on to take the three points.
Meanwhile, Avonmore B and Aughrim Rangers shared the spoils after a 3-3 draw (see focus match).
