Kilmacanogue
HISTORY SOCIETY LECTURE
Our local Kilmacanogue History Society will present their first lecture Talk in the Glenview Hotel on Tuesday, October 2, at 8 p.m. Titled ‘The Famine and Workhouses in County Wicklow’ and as always, everyone is welcome with entry for non-members just €4.
In this year that we mark the 175th anniversary of the beginning of the Great Famine in Ireland that irrevocably changed the course of Irish history, this is an opportunity for people in Wicklow to learn more about how it affected our local area.
Eva O’Cathaoir, who is a Scholar with a particular interest in this subject and Brian Donnelly Senior Archivist in the National Archives will present this talk and illustrate it with unique historical documents dating from the famine period that are in the National Archives.
The society would also like to make special mention of Mr Michael Kelleher on his retirement from his long service with Bray Library. Michael was always a good friend of Kilmacanogue History Society and they wish him all the best for the future.

GOOD LUCK LADS
All roads will lead to Aughrim this Sunday as Kilmacanogue take on Tinahely in the semi-final of the Intermediate Championship. Tinahely beat Kilmacanogue well in the group stages but our lads made a terrible start to that game and if they can start better this time out, they have every chance of making the final. Throw in is at 2 p.m. and the team would welcome support. Best of luck to Mark and the team.
SOCCER ACTION
Not a great weekend for Glencormac United to report. The under-14s played Wicklow Rovers at home and lost 3-1.
The senior team were also at home to Mill Celtic FC from Kildare in the Leinster Senior Cup and lost out on a 2-1 scoreline. James Delahunty got the goal but the team were missing to many regulars on the day.
