AUGHRIM

Following on from their double win in the under-11 hurling finals two weeks ago,our under-11 footballers completed a treble in this age group by defeating a strong A.G.B. side in Ballinakill last Saturday morning. This was a great team performance and they ran out comfortable winners in the end. Congratulations to all the panel and mentors.

Our under-15 footballers played Tinahely last Saturday afternoon in the final of the shield competition and although they were still very much in contention going into the second half, they had to give second best to a much physically stronger Tinahely side who deserved their victory on the day. This Aughrim under-15 side are near enough all eligible to play in this age group next year and the experience of getting to a final will stand to them. Well done to all.

Our annual race night and social event will take place in Joe O’ Toole’s on Saturday night, November 10. Race cards are out at the moment so please support this fundraiser and make the night a success for all.

SHILLELAGH

Juvenile - Top of the pile this week and rightly so our super talented U/11 football panel who having already secured the Division 2 league crown travelled to Ballinakill on Saturday last to take on neighbours Tinahely in the championship final.

Under the guidance of Daragh Gregan and David Cullen these boys and girls have been impressive all season and Saturday following what was arguably their best display to date they came out on top against a gallant Tinahely side.

The playing panel who done their club, parents and coaches proud was as follows: Darren Fogarty, Kai Timmons, Oscar Judge, Ryan Walker, Ryan Byrne, James Dragusin, Ross Whelan, Noah Cullen, Milo Quinn, Isabelle Doyle, Michaela Fogarty, Ali Byrne, Emma Cullen, Sally Dempsey, Callum Gregan, Nathan Finuncane, Cathal Fitzsimons. Captained by the cool, calm and ever reliable Lee Dagge in the number three Geansai all panel members can be rightly proud of their achievements and behaviour during what has been a busy season for all concerned.

Thanks to Sean/Cora Kenny for the use of their premises at Central House for the post-match refreshments and to Eugene/Melissa for their sponsorship of the food which went down a treat.

With the shortening evenings and the onset of Autumnal / even Winter weather conditions Juvenile activity will needless to say be restricted but there are as usual at this time of year plans afoot to provide indoor coaching particularly for our under-7 and 9 gladiators. Our hard-working Chairman Paul Behan will no doubt be in contact with parents in the not to distant future.

Adult section - The combination drawn in the club lotto draw on Monday, October 15, was 4, 5, 20, and 25, there was no jackpot winner, the following matched three numbers and shared €100, Patrick Doran, Croneyhorn Upper and Lorna Simpson, Batchelors Walk. Congratulations to David Whelan and Aisling Nolan who announced their engagement recently. Also, to Ballyknocker legend and former club stalwart Frank Deegan and his partner Catherine who also celebrated recently when Frank popped the question. Best wishes to both couples for a lifetime of health, happiness and prosperity.

AUGHRIM

Aughrim Juvenile GAA - The Aughrim under-11 football team put in a fantastic display on Saturday last to beat a fancied AGB side in the Mini Festival finals.

This young team showed great skill and determination to come from losing at half time to completely dominate and out play AGB in a second half display that was just spellbinding.

AGB had two points on the board in the first minute and were three up before Conor Wilson settled the Aughrim nerves with a fine point. Colm McGuckian added two further points and Marc O’Shea a goal to lead on 20 minutes however AGB finished out the half stronger and scored a further point to lead 0-04 to 1-03 (under-11 rules: point = 3, goal =1).

Aughrim were pleased enough having played in to a stiff breeze. On the resumption Aughrim quickly got in to their stride and completely blitzed AGB scoring 2-14 in 25 minutes to AGB’s 0-01. The scores coming from Colm McGuckian 1-3, Marc O’Shea 1-4, James Lambert 0-3, Darragh Rice 0-2, Sean Byrne 0-1 and Ryan Kinsella 0-1.

The second half was a complete team performance, these young lads could show a few adult teams how to move the ball at speed and turn defence in to attack in just a few seconds. From Pierce Carroll in goal right up to Bea Clancy in the forwards everyone pulled together in a fine team display.

At the final whistle, Ryan Kinsella accepted the Mini Festival final trophy on behalf of the team. Panel Pierce Carroll, Matthew Byrne, Tom Healy, John Fanning, Peter Toomey, Ryan Kinsella, Mikey Keogh, James Lambert, Marc O’ Shea, Sean Byrne, Colm McGuckian, Bea Clancy, Conor Wilson, Darragh Rice, Dominic O’ Loughlin, Cormac Sheridan, Aaron Kavanagh (inj).

Two weeks earlier the under-10 and under-11 teams both won their mini festival finals against the pick of the west. The under-11 team beat Michael Dwyers 18 to 15 while the under-10 team beat Western Gaels 33 to 31 in two very close games.

In all 30 players from Aughrim and Annacurra played hurling and it is testament to the hard work and dedication undertaken by some very good coaches that we fielded two teams at this grade this year and came away with two trophies.

The fact that the under-10 team were playing in an under-11 competition, finished second in the Division 2 league and won a mini festival final trophy speaks for itself.

Under-11 team: Darragh Rice, Conor Wilson, James Lambert, Cillian Duffy, Marc O’ Shea, Cormac Sheridan, Adam Lifely, Mikey Keogh, Mark Tyrell, George Doyle, Rhyan Moules, Thady O’ Sullivan, Liam Molloy, TJ Hynes.

Under-10 team: Peter Toomey, Matthew Byrne, Aaron Mooney, Ewan Doyle, Dominic O’Loughlin, Bea Clancy, Aaron Kavanagh, Cian Delaney, Cameron Delaney, Ryan Whelan, Pierce Carroll, Daniel Byrne, Sean Byrne, Ross Weld, Daniel Duffy, Darragh O’ Byrne. Congratulations to all for bringing home the treble this year.

Commiserations to our under-15 football team who lost out to Tinahely in the under-15 ‘C’ championship final on a score of 1-15 to 0-9. Unfortunately, the lads were giving away too much in size to a bigger and physically stronger Tinahely side. Dylan Byrne scored some fantastic long range frees, and he Shane Arthur, Philip Toomey, Hugh Gunning, Conor Edwards and Alex Kavanagh kept going until the end, but it just wasn’t to be their day.

TINAHELY
