THIS Wicklow team continue to go from strength to strength.

Another comprehensive win at a very windy Ashtown Lane when Wicklow took on third placed Balbriggan.

Wicklow kicked off into a strong wind wind and immediately put Balbriggan under pressure.

Balbriggan a big physical team tried to run the ball out from their 22 but an intercept by Aoibhean Stone sent Marleyn Kallas on a strong run for a well taken try.

Eirn McConnell successfully converted.

Soon after, captain Amy O’Neill playing at full back made a superb break which led to a penalty and she crossed the line to finish what she had started.

Not long after Megan Parkinson who had a very good game at scrum half set off on a run, well supported by Mia Sheridan who is getting better with every every game sent Amy in for her second try which was again successfully converted.

The Wicklow team were immense in defence, putting in some huge hits with Rachel Devlin leading the charge up out of defence.

The lineout functioned well and the scrums were balancing each other out.

Lauren Barry put in a great shift with one stand out steal and drive. The pack were very good in the loose making lots of ground. For all the possession though a few stray passes meant no more scores in the first half.

The second half saw Balbriggan up the pressure and only strong defence and some great turnovers by Caitlin Griffey five metres out stopped them from scoring.

For the next 20 minutes it was all Wicklow, but time after time the final pass let Balbriggan off the hook.

As often happens, Rachel Griffey made some serious metres with some great driving runs. Parky got a fine try after Wicklow won a scrum against the head. Edwina Sayer made sure of the seven points with a conversion off the upright!

Soon after Mia got just reward for a fine performance with a try started by another Amy break. Rachel then got a fine individual try, converted by Eirin.

Another fine performance against a strong but limited Balbriggan. The work rate was immense and the result well deserved.
