People of the Year Awards raise €6k for the hospice

- By MARY FOGARTY

SINEAD Tarmey of the Wicklow Hospice Foundation was delighted to accept a cheque last week for €6,383 – the proceeds of the recent Wicklow People of the Year Awards.

Representatives of Wicklow County Council and the Bray and Wicklow People made the presentation last Thursday afternoon at the Glenview Hotel, where the awards ceremony was held on September 21.

‘The Wicklow Hospice is so very grateful to be chosen once again as the beneficiary of this very poignant night,’ said Sinead. ‘We were honoured to be in the room with so many unsung heroes and to be a part of their night to shine brightly.

‘We would like to thank the Wicklow County Council and the Wicklow People/Bray People who run this event in aid of the Wicklow Hospice.

‘The building is well under way with the expected schedule of a September 2019 opening on track. A much-needed facility for the county,’ said Sinead.

The winners, who received their awards at the special ceremony in the Glenview Hotel, had been selected from nominations made by people and groups all over County Wicklow. The awards were held to recognise the exceptional ways in which people contributed to the community.

Wicklow Hospice Foundation, Wicklow County Council and the Bray People and Wicklow People were involved in the organisation, with proceeds going to the hospice foundation.

Judges struggled to pick their winners, as each person nominated was so deserving. There were 59 nominations made this year, which was a wonderful return from across the county. The committee said that they wished they could give each nominee an award.
